Notan Horizons
These collages use the Japanese design concept of Notan - the balanced composition of light and dark elements, often the arrangement of negative and positive space. This group of collages plays with this balance between light and dark to reframe the perception of a horizon at sunset, the moment poised between the light of day and the dark of night.
These works also attempt to answer my ongoing question as to whether it is possible to depict nature without sentimentality and still inspire reverence.
