Paper Logotypes

Designed to telegraph embedded meaning, logotypes (commonly, logos) are the original signifier, their name being a combination of the Greek word ‘logos’ - word, thought, principle, or speech and ‘type’ - mark, imprint, or symbol. Toward my ongoing interest in pattern, repetition, and seriality, these cut paper collages reference logos, badges, icons, and apps, ubiquitous images that exist only to signify another idea or entity.

These logotypes, each drawn from popular culture, are constructed by weaving paper strips and circles through a paper base. By producing two of each piece, the front and the inverse of the image are equally representative of the original source, both interpreting and blurring the connection to the original logotype.
